Erik Jendrisek has completed his transfer from Schalke to Freiburg.
Erik Jendrisek's Schalke nightmare has come to an end. The 24-year-old striker, who moved to Gelsenkirchen from Kaiserslautern last summer, has officially completed his transfer to Freiburg, according to the websites of both clubs.
Earlier today, Schalke coach Felix Magath revealed to Kicker that a deal, estimated in the region of €900,000 had been agreed upon by the two sides, and that only terms between the player and Freiburg had to be agreed. Negotiations concluded swiftly, and Freiburg now have an immediate backup striker to Bundesliga top scorer Papiss Cisse, who is out for the next few weeks with a thigh injury.
Freiburg sporting directo Dirk Dufner was thrilled to bring in Jendrisek, who has earned 22 international caps and featured for Slovakia at the 2010 World Cup.
"We have already negoatiated for a long time for this player and would like to have signed him for the first round of this season," he said according to the official Freiburg website. "Therefore, we are incredibly happy that we finally did it. Erik Jendrisek is a young, experienced and accurate striker who fits well with our team."
Coach Robin Dutt singled out "his quickness and his good left foot" as Jendrisek's best qualities. "He is a goal threat and also good in the build-up play. He can be used as a centre forward, but also can play on the wing in a triple attack. In a personal conversation I had a very positive impression. We got a player who is athletic and fits our standards very well."
Since joining Hannover on loan in 2006-07, Jendrisek has played in 102 matches in the 1. and 2. Bundesliga, scoring 34 goals in the process.
