Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Sergio Busquets has agreed to a contract extension until 2015.
Barcelona have confirmed through their official website that midfielder Sergio Busquets has signed a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2015.
The 22-year-old and his representatives had been locked in discussions with the Catalan giants over the past six weeks in order to negotiate a new deal for the Spanish World Cup winner.
The La Masia graduate's previous deal expired in 2013, but these improved terms include a significant salary increase, as well as his minimum fee release clause taking a significant leap from €80 million to €150 million.
Busquets broke into the first-team at the Camp Nou in the Triplete-winning 2008-09 season, and has enjoyed unbridled success, becoming one of coach Pep Guardiola's most reliable figures.
After the 5-0 cup win of Almeria on Wednesday evening, Guardiola confirmed that terms had been agreed, and he stated his satisfaction, "It’s one of the best pieces of news we could get. He’s a very experienced player, it’s great that Sergio will be at this club for so long.
"He’s one of those players who, because of the way he plays, will I’m sure help the new foreign players who come in and will take over the roles of the older players once they have left."
