Valencia midfielder Ever Banega believes fans are within their rights to criticise him.
Valencia midfielder Ever Banega has admitted that the club’s followers are entitled to express their opinion on his off-field activities, after certain sections of the support claimed he is suffering from alcohol problems.

The Argentine international suffered internal sanctions earlier in the season after partying into the night of a birthday celebration organised for coach Unai Emery, and subsequently breaking regulations.

He was handed a €6,000 fine, and Banega insists he wants to put the incident behind him, telling the media: “I want to forget because this is an incident from the past, although the fans are right to say whatever they want.

“I have no problem with the media, they do their job, all I can say is that I’m proud to be back after being injured. I am pleased with my work at the club and I continue to attempt to give my best in every practice and in every game to get back into the starting XI.”

The 22-year-old came on at half-time during the thrilling weekend win over Malaga, to turn the tie in his side’s favour, and he added that he enjoyed sharing the midfield with compatriot Tino Costa.

He stated: “I feel very comfortable next to Tino, as he handles the ball very well, when you play you must be 100 per cent, knowing that the players beside you are as willing to do as well as you or better.”
