Joaquin Caparros Rues Athletic Bilbao's Lack Of Intensity Against Mallorca

Athletic Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros wasn't happy with his side's display in the 1-0 loss to Mallorca.
Athletic Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros has blamed his side's lack of intensity, especially in the first-half, as the main reason for losing to Mallorca 1-0 on Monday evening.

The Lions were on a four-match winning streak coming into the match, and Caparros was disappointed with their display tonight.

"We were not engaged in the match during the first-half. We gave away 45 minutes," the tactician told Marca after the game.

"In the second-half, we tried against a well-organised and tactically strong opponent, but we had no success.
"We did not play this match with the same intensity we had in our previous encounters. It was only in the second-half that we tried to win. But I must point out that Mallorca did well this evening.

"We had a lot of offensive potential on the park, but lacked the skill to match it."

Caparros believes his side can fight for a place in the Champions League, as they are in a position to possibly qualify.

"We are in a position to sprint for a spot in the Champions League," he added. "It is within our reach."
