Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis has confessed that the team cannot afford to consider defeat to Mallorca at the Vicente Calderon on Monday evening.

Los Colchoneros compete in the final game of the weekend for the second week in succession, after being trounced 4-1 by Hercules in their last league outing.

The Brazilian left-back admitted that after that result, the players are refusing to consider another similar performance, adding that he is not concerned by having to play on Monday rather than across the weekend.

He remarked: “Right now we are just thinking of Mallorca, and we have to win this, because we cannot fail again. We play when we have to play, it is a privilege to play in the first division, and I personally do not complain about playing on a Monday, although I understand that it is better to play Saturday or Sunday.

“Mallorca are complicated opponents, and have produced very good matches against the big teams. They will be very tough opponents, but as I said, we just think about winning.

“Since I got into this team I have always been willing to work and improve and get up soon after a defeat. It is clear that nobody likes to lose games. Right now, we only think of Mallorca.”
