Roma Aim To Tie Down Philippe Mexes, But Milan Stand By

Philippe Mexes has not renewed his Roma deal yet, leaving Milan with a source of hope in their quest to land the defender.
Roma are in the process of renewing Philippe Mexes' contract, but Milan are on alert in case negotiations fail as they keep options open.

Il Corriere dello Sport claims Lupi chiefs have been in talks with Mexes over a new deal as his current one expires in June, but they have stalled over an agreement.

Mexes seems intent on staying in the capital, but the two parties have failed to make progress over the duration and wages in relation to staying on.

The gap has left Milan with room to manoeuvre as they have not given up on the 28-year-old Frenchman.

However, Milan recently claimed they would not upset their colleagues at Roma for Mexes, but further failures could see them swoop.

Adriano Galliani said their market would be "closed" following the arrival of Urby Emanuelson from Ajax.

Meanwhile, the Giallorossi are hoping to revise Jeremy Menez's contract clauses. His deal expires in 2012, but the club hopes to extend it and add a major buy-out clause to fend off interest from top clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both rumoured to be interested.
