Athletic Bilbao President Fernando Macua: Fernando Llorente Will Not Be Sold In Summer

Athletic Bilbao president Fernando Macua claims Fernando Llorente will not be sold in the summer, despite interest from Real Madrid.
Athletic Bilbao president Fernando Macua has reiterated his desire to keep striker Fernando Llorente at the club, insisting that the player is not for sale.

The Spanish international striker has been hotly tipped to join Real Madrid at the end of the season, and has been in superb form in front of goal this season for Los Leones, netting 13 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this season.

Despite the interest in the 25-year-old, Macua has claimed that he will do everything possible to keep the player at San Mames.

He stated: “Llorente will not leave Athletic this summer. We will not be selling players that are key to the team.

“No club would discard Fernando, and we know that the will of the player is to continue for Athletic for a long time. There has been no approach from any club for the striker. I can categorically say that Llorente will not leave Athletic in the summer.

“There are a number of other players who are the pillar of a project we are building here, and there will be no sale of key players.”
