Boss admits Modric will miss out but thinks Spurs have a great chance.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is expecting winger Gareth Bale and midfielder Rafael van der Vaart to be passed fit in time to torment Milan’s defence for the clash at San Siro on Tuesday.
Redknapp previously said that while van der Vaart would feature on the team-sheet, Bale’s recovery would not come in time for the Champions League clash.
However, he is now confident that the chances of the hat-trick hero making his comeback in Italy are high and the Spurs boss is definitely not ruling out the possibility of the Welshman's playing in the key Champions League clash.
He told reporters: "No, I'll be honest with you, not for sure.
“I don't know but the specialist thinks Gareth should be OK. If he feels right tomorrow I'd like to think he'd be out there giving it a go.
“He caused so many problems for Inter, didn't he? Everyone who saw that game always asks about Gareth Bale now."
The Welshman sustained a back injury at Newcastle in January and Redknapp will be hoping that the winger, who caused such significant headaches in the San Siro to Inter during the group stage, will be fit to take the game to the other Milanese giant.
Redknapp is also awaiting a definite answer on Rafael van der Vaart’s calf strain hoping that he could be part of the team travelling to Italy.
He said: "I have got to wait and see how Rafa is, he could be OK."
Midfielder Luka Modric is set to miss out on the trip to San Siro having just recently had his appendix removed.
Asked about the chances of the Croat to play, the Spurs boss said: "Luka could be just a bit short. It's only nine or 10 days ago that he had the operation. I don't think he'll play."
Despite the race to fitness for key members of his squad, Redknapp is confident about Tottenham’s performance on Tuesday.
"It will be interesting," he added. "We have got to stay in the tie. We've got to make sure we come back to Tottenham with a chance of winning. It is a good game for us, we got a good draw with Milan.
“I would rather have them than Copenhagen. I thought that would have been a banana skin. But Milan is a massive club, a great game to look forward to, and if we can make sure we are still in the tie when they come back to White Hart Lane it will be another great night.
“Milan have a lot of great players, they are a good side but they are not unbeatable. Over the two legs we have a good chance. It will be a big night for us.”
